Joyous grew up being called a crybaby.

As a Cancer Sun in a culture that pathologizes emotion — particularly in women, particularly in Black women — that label did what labels do: it became a filter. A way of making her legible to a world that finds depth inconvenient.

She was also raised in systems where questioning the status quo was viewed as problematic and worthy of punishment. Where meaning came pre-packaged. Where the map was handed to you before you were allowed to wonder if the territory was real.

When she eventually left those systems, astrology found her — and for a long time, it felt like the opposite of everything she'd escaped. A language for the self rather than submission to doctrine. She built a practice around it. An audience. A body of work.

And then, slowly, she started recognizing something.

Not that astrology was wrong — but that the same architecture she'd left behind had quietly followed her in this new practice. The same tendency to use a symbolic system for certainty instead of inquiry. To seek confirmation instead of excavation. To let the map become reality.

That recognition didn't make her leave. It made her go deeper.

She now looks at the patterns people inherit without knowing. The stories running quietly in the background, shaping what feels possible and what doesn't. The difference between a symbol that liberates and one that quietly keeps you in place.

Joyous has spent over a decade studying those architectures — through astrology, Jungian psychology, mythology, Human Design, Gene Keys, Destiny Matrix and the broader history of how human beings have always used symbolic systems to navigate existence.
